Sustainable Cone Denim Made With REFIBRA

New York, NY – Cone Denim, a global leader in denim authenticity and innovation, is responding to the apparel market’s calls for fabrics that are produced with more consideration for the environment. The new Cone Denim fabrics will be made with REFIBRA™ branded lyocell fibers, some of the most sustainable fibers available today. Cone Denim is the only fabric producer in North America to use REFIBRA™ branded lyocell fibers in denim fabrics.  Produced using the environmental award-winning, closed loop TENCEL™Lyocell production process. REFIBRA™ fibers are the only commercially available fibers made from recycled cotton and wood pulp, improving the sustainability profile of denim while continuing to provide highly desirable benefits such as softness and strength without compromising the authentic look and feel of denim.

Cone Denim combines experience, science, and innovation to reduce the impact of denim at all lifecycle stages from production, through actual use, to end of life. As global populations grow and  denim consumption increases, Cone Denim is committed to exploring ways to further minimize the environmental impact of garment waste once those products are finally discarded  Cone Denim with REFIBRA™ branded lyocell fibers support sustainability throughout a product’s lifecycle incorporating these special fibers in denim which are biodegradable in soil and seawater, converting back to the organize elements from which they were created. .

Denim consumers want authentic yet innovative products that maximize comfort, style, and performance.

“They also want to know that their favorite jeans are responsibly made and remain sustainable at the end of their lifecycle when finally discarded. Our Cone® 3D R&D team continues to explore and push the boundaries in developing the next evolution of sustainable denims” says Kara Nicholas, Vice President Product Design + Marketing for Cone Denim.

The new Cone Denim fabrics with REFIBRA™ will be made in Cone’s North American mills. The fabrics offer a traceable pedigree with a fiber ID, providing an independent means for brands and retailers to verify that their denims contain genuine Refibra™ branded lyocell fibers.

“The new fabrics from Cone clearly demonstrate that sustainability and denim are beautifully compatible concepts,” says Tricia Carey, director of global business development for denim at Lenzing, manufactuers of REFIBRA™ and TENCEL™. “When responsible denim manufacturers like Cone Denim create more environmentally considerate products that still address consumer demands, the entire apparel industry moves closer to a circular economy that benefits us all.”
